EU quality seal to protect the Black Forest Cuckoo Clock

The European Parliament approves the EU quality seal for special regional products such as the Black Forest Cuckoo Clock. This measure better protects and identifies such unique regional products.

The Black Forest cuckoo clock, which is known worldwide, will in future be protected by an EU quality seal. The introduction of this EU protection was announced in May of this year and has now been confirmed by the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

Previously, the origin label was limited to regional delicacies such as Black Forest ham, Parmesan, champagne, Hessian apple wine or Spree Forest gherkins. The new regulation extends protection to traditional craft or industrial products, including jewelry, textiles, glass and porcelain, as well as the cuckoo clock.

Schwarzwald Tourismus GmbH welcomes this innovation and emphasizes the importance of symbols such as the Black Forest Cuckoo Clock for tourism in the region. These symbols represent the values of the Black Forest and are of great importance. EU protection is intended to raise awareness of these traditional products, secure jobs, boost tourism and ensure fair competition. It should also help to identify and reduce counterfeits.

The control and enforcement of this new regulation will be in the hands of the national authorities, who will also monitor the online sale of goods. The consent of the EU states is considered a formality.
